Feb 03, 2011 The SonicWALL Global VPN Client is not supported on Macs. However, you can turn on either PPTP or L2TP (I recommend L2TP) in the SonicWALL itself. By using one of these protocols in the device, the Mac can connect using the built-in L2TP VPN client in the Mac OS. This is not the same IPSEC VPN tunnel that the Global VPN client uses. Sonicwall has the functionality to allow remote users to connect to the network behind the SonicWall using L2TP inbuilt client on MAC OS X using IPSEC VPN protocol. This article focuses on c onfiguration of L2TP VPN on MAC OS X clients to connect to SonicWall UTM appliances. Step 1: Configure WAN group VPN on the SonicWall appliance. The client provides anytime, anywhere access to critical applications such as email, virtual desktop sessions and other Windows applications. I have a sonicwall appliance configure with VPN. All Windows users has no problem connecting to Sonicwall with the global vpn client but non of the MAC users can. Any idea if is something that needs to be done for Mac users on the Sonicwall?

Disconnecting

Soho on 5.9.1.8 firmware iOS 10.2.1. Since update after disconnecting from VPN status will continue to say disconnecting even when force closing app. Have to restart phone to make it usable again. Works great while using though.

Ongoing issue with VPN over IPv6

If you use the app with T-Mobile as your cell data provider (because they adopted IPv6) , once VPN is established you can’t RDP connect to any local host using IPv4 IP address, ONLY using hostname. And for that to work you need to add rules for NETBIOS traffic from sslvpn to lan.
I have reported this issue to SonicWall 2 YEARS (!!!) ago, was told they are aware and promised it will be fixed within next release yet it still doesn’t work.
We’ve been loyal SonicWall customer for many years, deployed their appliances to many clients, but sometime it makes me wondering why Dell got rid of SonicWall brand so quickly after acquiring it few years back..

IOS 12 broke it? Reinstall it.

After installing iOS 12, iOS indicated that the app needed to be updated by the developer and that it is not approved to create a VPN. Deleting and reinstalling it fixed the issue. It’s odd that the app did not automatically get set to be updated like the other 32 apps that did when I installed iOS12. 🤷‍♂️
